Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you book

Booking

Our booking process is designed to be straightforward. You select your vehicle, choose pickup and return times, and confirm your reservation online. Your booking confirmation arrives via email with all the details you need for collection.

How do I book a vehicle with 4Drive Poland?

Enter your pickup location, dates and times on our website. Browse available vehicles, compare specifications and select the one that suits your needs. Complete the booking form with your details and pay the advance online. You will receive a voucher by email with pickup instructions and the rental company contact details.

What information do I need to provide when booking?

You need your full name as it appears on your driving licence, email address, phone number, flight details if collecting from an airport, and a valid payment card for the booking advance. At pickup, you will present your driving licence, passport or ID card, and payment for the balance.

Will I receive confirmation immediately?

Yes. Once payment is processed, you receive a booking voucher by email. This voucher contains your reservation reference, vehicle details, pickup location and time, rental company name and contact information, and any optional extras you have selected. Print it or save it on your phone for collection.

Payment and Advance

When you book online, you pay an advance to secure your vehicle. The remaining balance is settled when you collect the vehicle. Payment methods for the balance depend on the specific vehicle you have reserved, and this information is shown during booking and in your voucher.

How much do I pay online and how much at pickup?

You pay a booking advance online by card to confirm your reservation. The balance is paid when you collect the vehicle. The exact split is shown clearly before you confirm your booking. The advance secures your vehicle and guarantees availability.

What payment methods can I use for the balance at pickup?

Accepted payment methods vary by vehicle and are specified during the booking process and in your voucher. Some vehicles accept debit cards and cash, others require a credit card. Check your specific vehicle requirements before finalising your reservation. For detailed information, visit our payment methods page.

Can I pay the full amount online?

No. The online payment is a booking advance. The balance must be paid directly to the rental company at pickup. This allows flexibility in payment method and ensures the local company processes your rental agreement correctly.

Deposit and Credit Card

Many vehicles offered by 4Drive Poland operate without a traditional deposit block on your card. However, standard excess liability applies as outlined in your rental agreement. These are independent parameters - the absence of a deposit hold does not affect excess coverage terms.

Do I need a credit card to rent a vehicle?

It depends on the specific vehicle you choose. Some vehicles accept debit cards or cash for the balance payment and operate without a deposit hold. Others may require a credit card. The requirements are clearly stated for each vehicle during booking and in your confirmation voucher. If you do not have a credit card, filter your search for vehicles that accept alternative payment methods. For those with debit cards, consider increasing your card limit before travel.

What does no deposit mean?

No deposit means the rental company does not place a hold or authorisation on your card when you collect the vehicle. You pay only the rental balance and any optional extras. This is a separate matter from excess liability, which remains as defined in your rental agreement and protects the vehicle against damage or theft.

Is there still an excess if no deposit is required?

Yes. Excess liability and deposit requirements are independent. A vehicle offered without a deposit hold will still have an excess amount stated in the rental terms. This excess defines your maximum financial responsibility in case of damage or theft. Read your rental agreement carefully at pickup to understand your liability.

Documents and Age

To collect your vehicle, you must present valid documents. Requirements are standard across Poland but always check your voucher for specific conditions related to your booking.

What documents do I need at pickup?

You must present a valid driving licence held for the minimum period specified in your rental terms, usually at least one year. You also need a passport or national ID card, and your booking voucher. If your licence is issued outside the EU, an International Driving Permit is recommended. The rental company will verify these documents before releasing the vehicle.

What is the minimum age to rent a vehicle?

Minimum age varies by vehicle type and is shown during booking. Most standard vehicles require the driver to be at least 21 years old with one year of licence holding. Larger or premium vehicles may require drivers aged 23 or 25 with two or more years of driving experience. Check the specific requirements for your chosen vehicle.

Can someone else drive the vehicle?

Additional drivers can be added at pickup for a fee. Each additional driver must present a valid driving licence and meet the same age and experience requirements as the main driver. They must be registered on the rental agreement and present at the time of vehicle collection to sign the contract.

Pickup and Return

Vehicles are supplied by local rental companies in each city. Collection and return procedures depend on the company and location, with details provided in your voucher.

Where do I collect my vehicle?

Collection location depends on the rental company servicing your booking. Most pickups occur at airport desks near arrivals, at city-centre offices, or via delivery to your hotel or address. Your voucher specifies the exact pickup point, opening hours, and contact details. If collecting from Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) or Krakow Airport (KRK), follow signs to rental desks or meet your provider at the terminal as instructed.

What happens during vehicle collection?

You present your documents and voucher, pay the balance, and sign the rental agreement. The rental company representative conducts a vehicle inspection with you, noting any existing damage on the contract. Check the vehicle thoroughly - bodywork, tyres, interior, fuel level - and ensure all damage is recorded. You receive keys, insurance documents, and emergency contact numbers. Ask about optional extras like child seats, vignettes for motorways, or cross-border travel permissions for Czechia, Slovakia and Germany at this time.

What if my flight is delayed?

Contact the rental company immediately using the phone number on your voucher. Most companies monitor flight arrivals and adjust pickup times accordingly. If you expect significant delay, inform them as soon as possible to avoid cancellation. Provide your updated arrival time and they will make arrangements.

Driving in Poland

Poland follows right-hand traffic rules with clearly defined speed limits and road regulations. Familiarise yourself with local conditions before setting out.

What are the speed limits in Poland?

Speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h on single carriageways, 100 km/h on dual carriageways, 120 km/h on expressways, and 140 km/h on motorways. Limits are enforced with fixed and mobile cameras. Fines are issued on the spot or sent to the rental company, who will charge your card and add an administrative fee.

Do I need a motorway vignette?

Poland uses an electronic toll system for A1, A2, and A4 motorways. Payment is typically handled automatically via toll gates or prepaid transponders. Ask the rental company at pickup how tolls are managed for your vehicle. Some companies provide a transponder, others require manual payment at booths. For shorter routes, you can often avoid motorways and use expressways or national roads.

Can I drive to other countries?

Cross-border travel to Czechia, Slovakia, and Germany is permitted with prior written permission from the rental company. Request this when booking or at pickup. Unauthorised cross-border travel voids your insurance and rental agreement. Travel to other countries is generally not allowed. Confirm restrictions in your rental contract before departure.

Changes and Cancellation

Plans change. Understanding your options for modifying or cancelling your booking helps avoid unnecessary complications.

Can I modify my booking after confirmation?

Contact us at [email protected] as soon as possible if you need to change dates, pickup location, or vehicle type. Modifications depend on availability and may incur additional charges. Early requests are more likely to be accommodated. Include your booking reference in all correspondence.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms vary by booking and are specified in your confirmation email. Generally, cancellations made well in advance incur lower or no fees, while last-minute cancellations may result in forfeiture of the advance. Review your specific terms and contact us promptly if you need to cancel. Send cancellation requests to [email protected] with your reservation reference.

What if I return the vehicle late?

Late returns are charged by the rental company, often at a higher hourly or daily rate than your original booking. If you know you will be delayed, contact the rental company immediately using the number in your voucher to arrange an extension. Unauthorised late returns can result in significant fees and complications with future bookings.
